01. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
By accessing, downloading, installing, compiling, or using any component of the FreeStream software suite (including the Windows PC Server, the Android mobile application, or the hosted WebSocket relay service), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, do not install, access, or use FreeStream.
02. LICENSE & PUBLIC DOMAIN DEDICATION
FreeStream is free, open-source software. All original source code, protocols, and assets created by the project maintainers are dedicated to the public domain under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Legal Code (see LICENSE in the repository).
- You may copy, modify, distribute, and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, without seeking permission or paying royalties.
- Third-party components and dependencies (such as Microsoft WebView2, Makaretu.Dns, Android Jetpack, Next.js, and Google Fonts) remain governed by their respective open-source licenses.
03. RELAY ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY (AUP)
The hosted WebSocket relay service (/api/ws) is provided free of charge as a community utility to connect devices across isolated networks. To ensure fair access and security, you agree NOT to:
- Overload or Disrupt: Perform denial-of-service (DoS/DDoS) attacks, flood WebSocket connections, or execute unauthorized stress testing against relay infrastructure.
- Exploit Rooms: Attempt to brute-force Room IDs, intercept third-party traffic, or disrupt other active sessions.
- Unrelated Tunneling: Use the relay as a generic file host, arbitrary data tunnel, proxy, or botnet command-and-control channel.
- Distribute Malware: Transmit malicious code, trojans, exploits, or viruses through command payloads.
- Violate Laws: Engage in any conduct that violates local, national, or international laws or regulations.
The project maintainers reserve the right, without prior notice, to rate-limit, throttle, temporarily ban IP addresses, or terminate abusive WebSocket connections.
04. USER RESPONSIBILITIES & MACRO SAFETY
FreeStream enables remote execution of keyboard shortcuts, hotkeys, and macros on your host PC:
- Password Protection: You are solely responsible for setting a strong, secret password for your rooms to prevent unauthorized network connections.
- Macro Action Scope: Commands triggered remotely are executed directly under your current Windows user session with your user privileges. You accept full responsibility for all macros, scripts, or hotkeys you configure or trigger.
- Sensitive Work Environments: Exercise care when using remote hotkeys while working with sensitive applications, databases, or live production environments.
05. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE FREESTREAM SOFTWARE, SUITE, DOCUMENTATION, AND HOSTED RELAY SERVICE ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITH ALL FAULTS AND DEFECTS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
THE AUTHORS AND CONTRIBUTORS EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT FREESTREAM WILL OPERATE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.
06. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS, CONTRIBUTORS, OR MAINTAINERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, SYSTEM DOWNTIME, CORRUPTION OF HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE FREESTREAM.
IN JURISDICTIONS THAT DO NOT PERMIT THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, OUR CUMULATIVE LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW OR ONE HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS ($100.00 USD), WHICHEVER IS LESS.
07. SERVICE MODIFICATION & SELF-HOSTING
The hosted WebSocket relay is provided on a best-effort, free community basis. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the relay server at any time without liability.
Because FreeStream is open-source, you are fully empowered to self-host your own relay server using the source code provided in the relay-web/ directory.
08. MODIFICATIONS & GOVERNANCE
We may revise these Terms of Service periodically. Changes will take effect immediately upon publication in the official Git repository and website. Continued use of FreeStream after revisions constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
